Hawaii

We received a contract in the mail today from a really sweet couple! Kevin and Janelle are taking up the somewhat difficult and timely task of planning a destination wedding on the big island of Hawaii. We will be flying out to shoot their wedding in September. We’re looking forward to playing in the sand and getting amazingly gorgeous shots of them on their wedding day!

While thinking about Hawaii, it reminds us of our last trip to Kauai in August. Here’s a couple pics of us in Princeville, Kauai. This is our favorite part of the island. It is so green and lush. Exactly as you imagine Hawaii to be!

Getting Comfortable

Most people are not used to getting in front of the camera and being intimate with one another… not to mention getting comfy in front of TWO photographers!

When we went to do Jenna & Dan’s engagement shoot, we asked them to kiss… They looked at us like we were crazy! It didn’t take them long, though, to relax and be able to be themselves for the pictures. One of the things Donny & I really work on is trying to make our couples feel at ease and have fun with their engagement shoot. It is a fantastic way for couples to get used to their photographers and get practice in for the “big day”.

Lens Flare

We LOVE Lens Flare! It is so much fun. Some people think that we made a mistake and that’s how we got the lens flare, but really it is completely on purpose. We always get the “safe” shots, but then we love to play and get the striking and different shots. It adds such an alternative dimension to the pictures. Here are some examples!

Giddiness!

Gosh, I’m not sure if that is a word, but that’s the best way to describe our couples. We love when they are so giddy in love that we can capture the essence of their relationship in the pictures we take. That is, ultimately, why we do wedding photography! We want our images to be visual depictions of the relationship and love that our couples have. Here are a couple images from Pam & Matt’s engagement session that we feel represent that.

Infrared

One of the ways we love to shoot is with infrared. We have been shooting infrared for about 4 years and have recently had one of our cameras specially “outfitted” to be solely used for infrared photography. What we love is how the foliage and clouds become a snowy white color and the sky becomes blacked out. So many of our couples think that we actually take people to the snow to shoot these images, but really it is just another way of looking at the world. We find it to be striking, romantic and dreamy.
